Chief Instructor
Matt has been teaching kitesurfing and other ocean sports for over twenty years. Originally from Canada (where he started with snowboarding), he’s also lived in Japan, Vietnam, the US, and the Philippines.
Matt also enjoys windsurfing, catamaran sailing, and has a YouTube channel aimed at both ocean sport instructors and learners.
“I believe that a good instructor needs to be a student of the learning process, and how it can best be adapted to each individual in their own unique way.
It’s always been my focus to capture lessons learned from the many instructors I’ve worked with and trained over the years, as well as the thousands of students I’ve had the privilege to help.
By paying attention to the details (and yes, the details matter!) I’ve been able to develop very effective and time-saving ways to help both beginners and intermediate students become independent kiters-- more quickly, more safely, and with less frustration.
A background in industrial safety consulting on oil rigs, and time spent in the ambulance service has given me a strong sense of the importance of risk management, and maintaining best practices.
Good communication is key.”
